At Ellenbrook Secondary College, we believe that positive behaviour is the foundation of a safe, respectful, and engaging learning environment. Our Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) framework helps students understand and meet clear expectations while being guided to make choices that reflect our College values of: Engagement, Success and Community.
As part of our PBS journey, the College introduced KODA Values – a name inspired by the Noongar animals of our four House mascots:
- K from Avon’s KWILI
- O from Henley’s YONGA
- D from Stirling’s DWERT
- A from Swan’s MAALI
KODA is now the name of the Ellenbrook Secondary College Warrior who represents the unity of our Houses and the spirit of our College. The houses are represented in a number of activities, including carnivals, lunch time sporting competitions, theatre sports, positive behaviours and more. Students are awarded KODA Points through participation in events and are also given the opportunity to earn individual KODA Points for displaying the College values. The winning House is rewarded at the end of the year and gets to enjoy a full day on an excursion.
The College has developed a Positive Behaviour Matrix that outlines specific, expected behaviours in different settings — in classrooms, around the College, and online. These expectations are explicitly taught, modelled, and reinforced throughout the year, creating consistency and a shared understanding of what positive behaviour looks like at Ellenbrook SC.
Students who demonstrate these behaviours are recognised through our KODA Points system. These points acknowledge students “doing the right thing” and can be earned through everyday interactions, participation and leadership. Students can redeem their points for rewards at the KODA Shop and contribute to overall House totals, promoting a sense of teamwork and school pride.
More than just a mascot, KODA embodies friendship, respect and belonging — qualities that define the Ellenbrook spirit. Through KODA Points, regular celebrations and student-led initiatives, we continue to foster a culture where every student feels supported to engage, strive for success and contribute positively to our community.
