On Friday 8 May, our Year 10 Netball Specialist students had an amazing opportunity to attend the West Coast Fever Vs Adelaide Thunderbirds Suncorp Super Netball game at the RAC Arena.

The excursion provided students with a valuable chance to deepen their understanding and appreciation of netball in a real-world context, observing some of Australia’s top players demonstrate advanced skills, teamwork and strategic play. Students thoroughly enjoyed watching elite netball in action and witnessing the speed, teamwork and skill of the game at the highest level.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising the night - the excitement and energy in the arena made it a memorable experience for all!

On Friday 8 May, our Year 10 to Year 12 VET students participated in an information session on the WesTrac Cat Australia Apprenticeship Program.

Recruitment Campaign Coordinator Elizabeth Spencer provided valuable insights into the wide range of opportunities available, outlining potential career pathways and sharing what it’s like to be part of the WesTrac culture. She also offered practical advice on what recruiters look for in prospective apprentices

Joining Ms Spencer was Ellenbrook SC alumnus Jaxon Saylor (Class of 2019), a proud Indigenous graduate who completed two years as a trainee assistant with WesTrac before progressing into his current second-year apprenticeship. Jaxon shared his journey, the valuable experience and the support he received throughout his apprenticeship. His key advice to students was to never burn bridges and highlighted the importance of networking in today’s employment world.

We are proud to share that 3 Ellenbrook SC alumni - Archie Babich (2025), and brothers Christian (2025) and Michael Lehman (2023) were accepted into the highly competitive Westrac apprenticeship. Their success is a testament to the strength of the College's VET and WPL programs; recognised as the WorldSkills Best Performing School in WA in 2024 and 2022.

WesTrac Apprenticeship applications are now open and closes on 31 May 2026. Don’t miss out: bit.ly/4tBiGaT

Our Student Services team regularly implements programs to support students with their pastoral care needs, including mental health, wellbeing, and social-emotional development.

Today, our Year 9 students took part in a presentation by a representative from Legal Aid WA, covering important topics such as cyberbullying, sexting, and fights. It was a valuable opportunity for students to ask questions in an open forum, learn about the legal implications of these issues, and access helpful resources to support them in navigating these challenges and knowing where to seek help.

A big thank you to Legal Aid WA for coming out today to speak with our students!

This morning, four of our students – Sarah C, Akua D, Rayyaan J and Charlene W – had the opportunity to attend the WA Police Commissioner’s Morning Tea for African Community Leaders at Ascot Racecourse. The event brought together African community leaders and representatives from the Western Australia Police Force in a collaborative and engaging environment.

The program featured presentations, prayers, musical performances and valuable networking opportunities that encouraged open dialogue and connection. A highlight of the morning was hearing from former Ellenbrook SC student, Bellamore Ndayikeze, who shared her personal journey and the challenges she has overcome. Her story was both powerful and inspiring, resonating strongly with students and attendees alike.

The event focused on strengthening relationships between local police and community leaders, with meaningful discussions centred on enhancing safety, building trust and fostering mutual understanding. A police recruitment segment also provided insight into career pathways, with African police officers sharing their own experiences and journeys into policing.

Our students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and expressed their gratitude to WA Police Commissioner Col Blanche for organising the event and recognising them as valued community leaders and partners.

On Friday 1 May, 19 students from Ms Adams’ Biology class visited Herdsman’s Lake to complete a compulsory fieldwork component of the course. This hands-on excursion gave students the opportunity to explore the aquatic, bird, animal and plant life that make up the Herdsman’s Lake ecosystem.

The day began with a short lesson on food webs and energy flow, linking theory directly to real-world ecology. Students then carried out abiotic testing at selected sites around the lake and analysed aquatic invertebrates collected through net scooping. The excursion concluded with a walk around the lake, observing birdlife and other organisms to develop an overall snapshot of the lake’s health at the time of the visit.

Students put their knowledge into practice through activities including population surveys and water quality testing. It was a fantastic day of outdoor learning enjoyed by all. A big thank you to Mr Hatch for driving and supporting the excursion.

On April 30, our Year 7 and Year 8 GAT students stepped beyond the classroom and into the real world of law through an engaging excursion focused on Civics and Citizenship. As part of their study of Australia’s legal system and the role courts play in upholding the rule of law, students visited the Francis Burt Law Education Programme for an authentic, curriculum aligned learning experience.

During the session, students explored an “Empty Court” to learn about the courtroom layout and the roles and responsibilities of court personnel, observed a live court proceeding in either the Supreme Court or District Court, and participated in a scripted mock trial, The State of Western Australia v. Jamie Brown. Students also watched criminal cases at the Magistrate's Court. This hands on experience allowed students to examine a fictional arson case and gain valuable insight into legal processes, justice, and civic participation, bringing their classroom learning to life.

Well done to the students - organisers praised them for their positive attitude and engagement, noting it was a pleasure to host them.

Our students have been working incredibly hard preparing props and rehearsing for the upcoming College production in Term 3.

During the school holidays, our dedicated students completed full‑day rehearsals from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm, learning the 'Jolly Holiday' dance and beginning construction of the set pieces for 'Mary Poppins'. The students’ focus, energy and teamwork were outstanding.

Rehearsals have continued after school this term, with crew members, including College alumni from the Class of 2025, Ethan Bellomo and Jasmin Anderson, getting involved in set painting. It has been wonderful to see such enthusiasm, creativity and collaboration as preparations continue.

Stay tuned!

It was an honour to be part of the Collective Primary Schools’ ANZAC Day celebration this morning, hosted by Ellenbrook Primary School, and well attended by community members and staff.

Head of Year 12 Mr Watkins, along with Head Councillors, Bella P and Richard K, represented the College and laid wreaths during the ceremony. Our amazing music students also played the bugle to mark this significant national day of remembrance. It was a respectful and moving occasion, honouring the sacrifices of those who served.

In Term 1, Year 9 and 10 GAT students attended an excursion to the Western Australian Space Science Education Centre to take part in the 'Plants in Space' program.

During this engaging mission, students took on the role of research scientists and investigated how plants could be grown beyond earth - building their understanding of microgravity, sustainability, and the role of plant life in supporting future missions to Mars. After successfully completing the inquiry mission, students presented their findings to the class.

The Plants in Space program covers plant vascular systems, root structures, and reproductive studies through practical lab experiments. The experience provided a valuable insight into applied science and space research.

Thanks to Ms Potter for supporting this excursion.

#throwbackmemories Our ESC Music students had an unforgettable experience on their music tour to Canberra last year, where they were privileged to perform at the Australian War Memorial. One of the most moving moments was presenting the first public concert at the new southern entrance. The choir’s breathtaking renditions of Amazing Grace, Lonely, and Lacrimosa left a lasting impression on all who attended.

As we commemorate ANZAC Day, this experience holds even deeper meaning - a powerful reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and stories honoured at the memorial.

The tour was a rewarding journey of music, learning, and meaningful connections, and a moment our students will carry with them for years to come.
