Champions of ‘Just Start It’ Start-up Competition

Just Start It Winners

Our Year 9 Gifted and Talented HASS students have made us incredibly proud by winning the ‘Just Start It’ competition! Over the past 20 weeks, they immersed themselves in creativity, exploration, and discovery through this engaging program, which saw over 200 teams across Western Australia, with only 10 teams making it to the finals. Ellenbrook Secondary College team (Aceline V, Agatha V, and Simar S) was one of two public schools in the competition.

Their winning app, ‘Field to Fork’, addresses rising grocery costs by connecting farmers directly with buyers, reducing waste, and offering fresh, affordable produce. With their solid business plan, innovative design, and impressive pitch, they clinched the top spot and a $5000 prize!

Huge thanks to the City of Swan for sponsoring this fantastic initiative and to our dedicated ESC P&C Association Inc. for facilitating the grant application. A big thank you to ‘Just Start It’ for mentorship preparing our students for this remarkable opportunity.

The College hosted an incredible afternoon on Wednesday 15 August to celebrate our winners and all students from the Gifted and Talented HASS Program who participated in the SCSA-endorsed ‘Just Start It’ initiative, integrated as part of their course unit. The winners pitched their innovative work once again, impressing their peers, supportive parents, and all the program partners.

The team’s success have gained media attention – they were featured on the Episode 784 on The Couch TV Perth program, the  Echo Newspaper and the City of Swan‘s website.

Our students’ achievement is truly inspiring.  It was a great success and yet another reason to be proud of our Ellenbrook SC students and the supportive team behind them. Congratulations to all!
