Humanities and Social Sciences

Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) are academic fields that explore human culture, behaviour, and society. The humanities encompass subjects like literature, philosophy, history, and the arts, focusing on understanding human experience, values, and creativity. Social sciences, including sociology, psychology, economics, geography, and political science, examine how individuals and groups interact, how societies function, and how human behaviour influences and is influenced by the world.

In the Western Australian Curriculum, the HASS Learning Area comprises four strands: Civics and Citizenship, Economics and Business, Geography and History.

Studying HASS is crucial because it helps us better understand ourselves and the world around us. It fosters critical thinking, empathy, and cultural awareness, enabling us to address complex social issues, navigate diverse perspectives, and make informed decisions. In an interconnected world, the insights gained from humanities and social sciences promote better communication, cooperation, and problem-solving, ultimately shaping more just and resilient societies.

Throughout the differing units taught, students have opportunities to enrich their learning through excursions, field trips, incursions, national and state competitions.

In Senior School (Years 11 and 12), HASS offers various ATAR, general, certificate and university pathway courses, all of which are taught by experienced staff who are subject matter experts.
