On Friday 20 August, our Kapa Haka students and staff members welcomed 33 students and staff from Australind Senior High School (ASHS) for an intimate meet and greet.
Sorren Harmer and her husband Caleb got in touch with the College back in April to talk about our Kapa Haka program, as this was something they were working towards establishing at ASHS. Our Cultural Support Officer, Ropata Whanga, provided guidance and remained in regular contact with the couple. Since then, Sorren and Caleb have successfully established a Kapa Hapa program for Mฤori students in ASHS.
It was heart-warming to see both groups of students coming together and sharing their beautiful culture. Our students performed a traditional welcome dance, followed by an emotional greeting from Ropata and Caleb.
Thanks also to Ropata for organising the event. Our students had a wonderful day.Thank you to Caleb, Sorren, Ross Hillier (Deputy Principal ASHS) and Ruliha Bishop for making the trip to Ellenbrook. We loved having you, and you’re welcome back anytime.
