Career Practitioner

My name is Iain McAlpine, and I am a Career Practitioner.

My job is to provide the College with expert advice on career-related topics that address the individual needs of students, including: counselling students and parents, providing career and further education advice for school leavers, helping staff with embedding career education into their classrooms and getting relevance back into education for students that are unsure of what to do and where to go next in their school to work pathway.

I can also help students with resumes, cover letters and preparing a portfolio in order to gain that first job or apply for university courses.

I have a diverse background with regards to the world of work, I left school before completing Year 10 and went on to an apprenticeship as a bricklayer. I then worked as truck driver and at one point in retail as a video store manager (when they still existed) at 28 I entered university where I completed a Bachelor of Education in History and Anthropology with Career Education as a Minor.

This history in different aspects of the world of work has given me a very broad understanding of different work environments and as such I am excited to pass this knowledge onto the students.

I am currently studying a Graduate Certificate in Career Development to ensure that I can provide you with accurate up-to-date career pathway and labour market information to ensure that students feel confident in their future choices.

I look forward to helping both parents and students with any career related enquires and can be contacted via my email to book an appointment.
